You’re the one for me, fatty…
With 700CMXers doing bigger and bigger tricks these days fat tires are a definite advantage. However, anyone that’s run a B43 or a Deep V with a 32c or bigger tire has probably rolled a tire, most likely when nose-pivoting or trying to learn 180s. Both the Deep V and B43 are only 19mm wide where the bead of the tire rests.
Fine if you’re running 23c or 25c tires, not ideal with if you want to run 38 or 40cs.
The chukker is a definite improvement. At 24mm wide it’s much less likely to have a tire roll off.
Velocity offers yet another extrusion that I think may be the next wave.
The Cliff Hanger is a 28mm wide mountain bike rim that it based on the Aeroheat rim but with 15% thicker walls. Though not listed as a 700c option on Velocity’s website Matt told me via email that the Cliff Hanger is available in 700c in both 32 and 36 hole drillings in black with a machined sidewall (though non-machined black will be available soon), and they retail for about $70. The Cliff Hanger is heavier than the Chukker, but if you’re running huge tires weight probably isn’t your first concern.
So, if you’re looking for some new hoops to go on your Bruiser or Thrasher or Scissor or Kilroy or any of the next generation CMX frames with loads of tire clearance you may want to look into the Cliff Hanger. Just make sure you bring them to me to have them built.

Or if you’re completely nuts, the MTX33 by SUNringle is 33mm wide.
