First Look: Brotures Platon Fixed/Free Convertible Track Hub

I am very excited to announce that Brotures have just released the Platon track hub which goes from fixed to free with one touch. Brotures is the house brand of JahLife bike shop in Yokohama Japan. At first I didn’t know what to expect, but once I saw the video I was blown away by the ease of use. Push in on the side of the hub to make it fixed or pull it to make it a freewheel. Magic!

    At $292 RRP it’s not the cheapest but it certainly looks sweet.

    I would destroy that hub in a matter of hours.

    @CBLESLIE
    good thing your opinion is shit.

    if you use it properly and dont fuck with the sliding mechanism like puttin it halfway or something those splines on the fixed-half of the interface are just as good as any threads or bolt on shit you have.

    Bolt on is the statstically, over the given period of its use in comparison to other direct drive hub variations, the most reliable way to provide direct drive to a rear hub. I have never seen one broken, ever. I’ve never even heard of one breaking.

    That aside; I don’t expect “shaeshdfeeshd’s” opinion to be “worth dick” unless he has a degree in mechanical engineering; which judging from his post, is unlikely.

    Anything that could be considered a “clutch” or engagement device, no matter the configuration will eventually suffer a beating and need to be replaced. Add aluminum into the mix with it’s inferior shear point to steel, and expect to have some unhappy customers in the near future. I can already think of several ways to remedy the engagement system, but alas, I don’t care about the fact that you can coast down hill.

    Also, the Internet is serious fucking business.

    Solid points on both sides of the discussion. I guess we will find out when they make their way into the market. The more complicated the mechanism the higher risk of mechanical failure. I think it will hold up for normal riding but not sure about putting it on a freestyle bike. It would be cool If it could handle some dirt jumps.

    this is just the same as this hub in this movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97dpuu7KkKg

    No doubt that these are factory hubs that companies can have customized with their logo. That video link definitely shows that the hubs are strong enough to take whips and backflips.

    hella breakin shit all day, i hate my equipment a lot so i just fuck it up in any way i can, like when i get a new chain i pour water on it and leave it outside so itll break more easily. then i do chainring stalls on high ledges and throw my bike when i dont land it.
